✨ 1. Released in 1996, the album marked a radical stylistic shift for Earth, moving away from ultra-slow drone doom toward a sludgy, feedback-drenched fusion of grunge, southern rock, and Americana.
✨ 2. The album's title and theme are heavily inspired by the occult, specifically Anton LaVey's *The Satanic Bible* and the imagery of black magic.
✨ 3. Bandleader Dylan Carlson recorded the album while battling severe heroin addiction, a dark period that heavily influenced the record's desolate, ghostly atmosphere and lyrics.
