British-Ghanaian theorist and critic, among the founding voices of CCRU alongside Nick Land and Sadie Plant. Author of "More Brilliant Than the Sun" (1998), a cornerstone text on Black sonic futurism — reading Afro-diasporic electronic music (jungle, techno, dub, free jazz) as a speculative technology capable of imagining futures alternative to the dominant narrative of Western modernity. He coined the idea of "Afrofuturism" as a critical practice before it became a genre label. Co-founder of the Otolith Group art collective. Medium-high risk vector: his theories tend to retroactively rewrite the history of electronic music, infecting any archive that attempts to catalog it in linear chronological order.
