Battle Angel Alita

A cybernetic body found discarded in the debris of an orbital scrapyard is reactivated by a street cyber-doctor. Alita (Gally) gradually reconstructs memory and identity while navigating a society vertically stratified between the junk-city of Scrapyard and the floating, unreachable sky-city of Zalem above. Kishiro treats the body as an interchangeable artifact — every "shell" can be replaced, upgraded, mutilated and rebuilt — while the "ghost", or its possible absence, remains the question never resolved: what survives of an identity once every material component has been swapped out? A pulp, action-driven counterpart to the philosophical discourse of Ghost in the Shell, applied to street-level cyberpunk rather than governmental speculation.
